Default gutting the stock air box

I have read about gutting the stock air box and even putting holes in the sides.
My question is, what do you have to do to accomplish this (gutting the box) and do you have to install anything afterwards? I have only recently bought the car and learning some tips on performance so please bare with my ignorance. Thanks

The car is a 1992 SE

well if you have a 92-94 (Series 1) then there is no modifications that can be done to the stock air box. All of the 95-99 have a very restrictive airbox. the idea is to gut all of the internals out of the box. this allows for more flow. There is nothing that you will need to add to the box after it is modified. It is recommended that you get a CAI this is much better than the stock air box.

He has a '92. So pretty much there isnt anything you can do. The only options you have is to either a.) get a K&N drop in filter, or b.) get a CAI.

I beg to differ. There'* alot you can do to it. Put a drop-in K&N filter, and punch some holes in the front of the box.

You can see it from the inside in that pic. Route the hose down behind the headlight to cooler pastures. You'll double the total capable airflow, and you will feel it, especially on a Supercharged car, but even on one that'* not.

Moving this down to Performance.

I defintely agree with will, I ran this setup for a while before I got my CAI, its a definite advantage over the stock, or even a gutted airbox.
