I don't have pics..but I remember that there wasn't necessarily a baffle in your version. I did enlarge the whole in the front piece and removed that center solid piece. It took a little bit of work too...it'* not as easy as a 96-99.

Maybe Hailey can snap a couple pics of the results.

And always remember to use the mesquite charcoal briquets when gutting your airbox. It gives a little more natural flavor to the air.

I actualy prefer the hickory smoked flavor but mostly because im alergic to the mesquite.

If the box is the same as the 2000 GPs then it is 3 pieces you remove the tubed that runs to the tb from the box and turn it away then disconect the screws on the top of the box pull the back of the box off it will have the filter. After this proceed to remove the next section of the box this section will have a be blocked off for all but a hole in the top left side.

I used a drill to make several pilot holes for starting and turning points in the plastic then used a jig saw to cut a dremal would have been easer but use what you have. after wards I used a file to sand down the edeges and clean it up followed by rincing it off and drying it to get rid of all shavings.

Even though i did not take the time to remove the 3rd part of the box to do the same as above I would recomend doing it so you will have the best flow from it.

Also if you see seeds of dog food in the box remove it all and the pcm to get to it easer I had about a half pound or more dog food in mine from some critter.

There are pics of how I did mine in this thread. I just used a dremel tool(actually the Black and decker version). It seems to work fine and no problems with mine.

is the performance aspect the same, or should I keep the tube and dryer duct "ram" underneath the car going into the custom box since the new tube I have is smooth on the inside.

The important thing your pics don't show is the air horn inside the box that you removed. Use a dremel or big drill bit to remove the big plastic rivets and pry it out, being careful not to crack the outer housing (like I did in a place or two). I'll post a pic of mine tomorrow.

I hadn't hought of cutting out the back wall that faces the core support. That was a good idea! As long as you cut the core support, too... I'll do that next.
