? about cold air intakes
Ok my bonnie is an 02. I want to get a cai but i dont really have the money to spend on the intense cai which is close to 200 bux.. If i just get a tube that will go close to the fender and a k&n on the end that would be fine right? Providing that i did take the whole air intake housing off. What hsould i do with that little computer thing that is inside of the stock intake housing? Will i gain anything? Throttle Response? Improved Gas mileage? Also, i remember with one of my old cars that i had when i put a CAI on i had to unplug the maf to erase and plug itback in so i t would be able to read the new intake (the air thats coming in). Hopefully u understood that because i cant realyl explain it very well. Do i have to do that with the bonnie?

If you dont get Intense'* FWI, it would be best to run a tube and filter as close to the fender that you can. Then you'll want to seal off any possibility of engine bay heat from getting to the filter. As far as the computer, I'd get the PCM tray from Intense, I believe it'* under $20 by itself. You wont have to do anything with the MAF, but the Intake Air Temperature sensor will have to be relocated somewhere, if you get the right filter (K&N RX-4750) you can put it into the bottom of the filter, just have to drill the hole a little bigger than it starts out as..

That'* all I did. Just make sure to seal it off from the engine bay. You dont want that hot air going back in to the engine. There'* a few here that do that, including me. Take a look at my pictures to get an idea. As for the probe, ya, make sure you put that in the new tube. That reads the air temp going in.

with the IAT ( temp sensor) you dont want that in the filter, the S2 was designed and the PCM was programmed to read the air at the TB, not at the filter. Keep the IAT in or as close to the stock location as possible.
and if you dont have the $ for the Intense, save up for it. When you all said and done, you will be spending about 100 ( coupler, piping, and filter) and then you still have to make a shield from the engine bay heat. Spend the extra, its worth it

Another option that is quite popular is to gut the stock airbox and add a K&N drop in filter. If you do ever plan on getting a FWI, I would recommend a gutted airbox and K&N for now, you will waste the least amount of money that way, and you don't have to seal anything off from the engine heat. That is all we have on our '03 for now untill we get a FWI and it works pretty good. There is still some restiction from the stock accordian tube connecting the airbox to the TB, but it does flow better then a non gutted box, and you can also hear the whine

thanks guys, and yes i do have the gutted airbox mod. It does work pretty good. I can hear the whine. When the motor is cold it sounds likea vaccum from the outside. Its pretty loud. Yeah i think ill man up and save up for the fwi from intense. Does it come with everything i need? Do i have to go to the store to pick up any parts? Also, how do i put it in? Do i ahve to remove the inner fenderwell from the drivers side to get inside of the finder to put the filter in? Or is the hole big enough to put he fiilter in? What kind of improvements will i notice? Gas mileage? Acceleration? HP? THANKS ALOT GUYS FOR UR INPUTS!!!!

ok so for the IAT sensor, if i were to get another tube that doesnt have the hole in it for the IAT sensor, should i just drill a hole and stick that sensor in it(as close to the the TB as possible?
