Default Green Filter

So I feel into the smoke and mirrors of performance air filters. I know we swear by K&N on this site. But when I went to the track for Pontiac Day I saw a display for Green Filters. SO I figure to give it a shot. So I got one from the local speed shop that carries them. Was $56 so little cheep than K&N. I felt it was a good choice because some Porche guys run them in GT1. Going to put it in soon and I'll see whats up.

These things are hard to say for sure if it'* doing any good. The butt dyno is not the most accurate device.

In my personal experience the K/N drop in replacements are just a waste of money. a good paper filter will flow about the same and outfilter them

"WE" dont swear by K&N here. LOL That was a "Old Gaurd" tactic of getting people to do as they do.......I throw in that until you start climbing the MOD chain, Even gutting the airbox isn't doing a thing for you. ( Take the filter completely out and WOT, put it back in and repeat. It wont change a thing) GM engineered it to flow for what you motor needs OEM. They are not idiots. And proper airflow is cheap and not overlooked it the design scheme of things. Filter Makers are no better than the idiots that keep telling you "Tide" is now 40% improved. If in reality if it got that much better with all the advertised improvements over the last 150 years,.... Clothes would sparkle just looking at the box.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't take a lot to start creating restricted flow, but just opening up something for flow, doesn't mean it will. People like to say, "get the air in, get the exhaust out". Well, ya...... but you first have to create a reason for this. It doesn't just happen magically because you bought a cone filter, or a $60 dollar drop in.

It doesn't hurt to start things where ease and money point you. But I like to keep the air clean about things like that'* all. I know a man who advocated things like gutting/K&N/CAI/Cone Filter/ELC tricks/Painting Heat dissipative paint on */C'*/Methanol injection/ Blah/Blah/Blah. And beat people down who questioned the validity of these things . And ya know, he couldn't get his POS out of the 14'*. We wont mention names..........

I think the thing I like about the K&N is that fact that its the last filter you have to ever buy, and it comes with a 1M mile warranty. The cleaning and recharge kits aren't that expensive and when you figure out the cost of good quality paper filter replacements over the lifetime of the car, versus the cost of the K&N and recharge kit; it'* a bit cheaper to go with the K&N for some applications.

You don't run the risk of getting oil on your MAF from a paper filter.

You wont get oil on your MAF with a properly oiled cone filter either. Just don't over oil it. I also like the look of a nice cone filter. Some times function and appearance need to go hand in hand.

X2....frequently MAF issues with running a K&N or similiar oil based filter has to do with over charging it and adding way more oil than what you need. Once cleaned, you should only oil it until it appears a light burgundy color. Let it air dry before placing it back on the car and don't run you vehicle right away.
