Default Grand Prix guy looking for intro to Bonnies

Hi there,

I have a Grand Prix GTP with some engine and suspension upgrades, but have always loved Bonnevilles. I'm looking for a basic overview of modding SSEI'* (2000+). I know quite a bit about Grand Prix'* so I'm really wondering how it compares.

Is engine modding basically the same? It'* the same engine. Does anyone here run smaller pulleys? What supporting mods do you guys need? Do the GP'* aftermarket CAI'*/exhaust mods work on Bonnevilles? FInally, do modded Bonnevilles exhibit the tranny problems Grand Prixs do?

As for suspension, what do you guys do? I'd think you'd have a lot of options, since you share a platform with the Cadillac Seville STS and other solid handling cars. Are there suspension parts you can grab from such cars (thicker swaybars for instance)? What else do you guys do?

Sorry if I'm just rehashing a question that'* been asked 50,000 times, but I am genuinely curious and have already spent a half hour searching.

Thanks,

David

My Zilla doesn't really relate. It'* a 93.

None of the exhaust components are the same for the GP and Bville. But the good news is that it doesn't matter. We don't have the restrictive U-bend and have a much freer-flowing exhaust from the factory. Stock mufflers will take you into the 13'*, so it'* pretty much just PEM'* or Headers and a high-flow Cat.

Engine and PCM mods are pretty much the same. As are the parts.

Not sure what trans problems you're talking about. Most cars will need tranny beef after modding. We have some 2k'* running in the 13'* on stock transmissions or stock rebuilds. Some on beefier builds.

Suspension work really hasn't been pursued here on that generation.

Yeah I know that but it shows the work that you have put into essentially the same drive train... everything done to the Zilla can be done to a 00+ SSEi

True. But the difference is the ported and polished cylinder heads for the Series 2 are readily available. As are PEM'*, etc. I HAD to DIY. S2 have a choice. DIY or buy.

Hi...and welcome.

The drivetrain is basically the same. And yes..similar mods are done on both. However.. in the 00 bonnies there are some differences. No dogbone mounts, and a comfy car front mount. Many swap that out to a solid mount. The trannies are the same, and moving a couple extra hundred pounds.

Overall.. it seems the GP enjoys a little easier time modding and going fast w less KR than a bonne. Although you can tune and work with KR to pull it out.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely be on the look out for a good deal. My father had an SLE two years ago, and I loved the way it handled. Much more buttoned down than my GP (at least when the GP was stock).
