X2.

But I have a question. Is that filter waterproof? Would it be able to hold up to the elements of driving on the road? What prevents it from being destroyed with little rocks, possibly dirt, and water?

I didnt take a pic of it but there is a flat plastic piece the thickness of say.. the inner fender well. that is protecting it. it has some "air holes" in it.

You noticed the extra 'volume' of the intake, sounds great doesnt it ;)

Good job and nice pic series.

I have had mine for a few months now and the filter is still clean living under there, it is pretty well protected with the valance tray.

Gumball:
Nice write up with Pics. This mod is coming but I want to do the strut tower brace first.

Excellent presentation with pics. Real nice install! Have fun with it. :)

macho_mike21 07-24-2005 02:49 AM

just dont try to ford any rivers now. Not that you should with any other kind of intake either.

dbeast420 07-24-2005 10:38 AM

Looks like a good clean install. How much difference did it make????

fantastic88 07-24-2005 05:04 PM

Nice. You'll really feel that on a cool 50* day.

Rogue 07-24-2005 09:09 PM

Looks really nice. You may want to trim the hose a bit (or pull it further into the fenderwell) to straighten out the hose a bit.

Hope you like the results :)

Well, you've inspired me so I went ahead and ordered my kit just now. My wife is out of town for 2 weeks so I'm hoping it will come before she gets back. You know how that goes. She can buy curtains or whatever because we "need" them but it always seems like there is a raised eyebrow when I order something. When she accidentally saw the invoice for the Michelin Pilots, I think that was good for 2 raised eyebrows.

Hmmm, I'm also guilty of "sneaking" an order for parts here and there! My motto: Do it first, beg for forgiveness later!

I told my dad it would increase the gas mileage alot.

He wasnt impressed, so I just got it anyway.

mkaake 07-27-2005 08:35 AM

I sold my wife with the filter - We want to have the car for a solid 300k (we're at 120 ish right now), so the cost of air filters over the life of it will pretty well pay for the k&n.
I also tried to play the gas mileage card, but I can't say that I've really seen an increase. Not when I let her drive anyway... she's got one happy foot.

Driving the same area, I get 30~32 MPG, and still have fun with the car... she gets about 22~24 MPG... but the thing is (good thing she doesn't read here), my driving is just as fun, but hers can be downright scary...

Do you think this kit would work with a series 1 supercharged, it looks great though, cool install pics

Probably not as intense has kits starting with 1997. You can go to www.intense-racing and look around.

you know there had to be a reason that the filter went too, right??

I ordered the kit Monday and after chasing the UPS truck around the neighborhood to get my order when no one was home to take delivery, I got it 3 days after ordering and it is in. Definitely a 10 for cool factor as far as the sound at WOT.
However, now I'm wondering if a FWI is actually better than a well constructed CAI with a heat shield. It would seem to me that the FWI has a lot more hose for the air to run through and there are more turns as well which would seem to be more restrictive than the straight shot that a CAI gives. It would be interesting to have someone do a comparison on a dyno where the type of intake is the only variable.

Rogue 07-28-2005 09:17 PM

There is a reason why the top 5 fastest FWD bonnevilles have Fenderwell Intakes.

Please don't misunderstand me. I wasn't stating that the CAI was better but I was just curious about what I observed while I was installing the FWI. It seemed that they both took air from the same area with the CAI having a shorter, less restrictive run. I'm obviously missing something, hence my curiousity.
I should also have added that I was very impressed with Intense's speedy delivery. I managed to get it in without my wife having a chance to ask what I was up to.
All told tonight I worked aabout 2 1/2 hours which included rotating the tires, relubing the urethane sway bar bushings and installing the FWI. Not bad for an evening's work.

Gumball 07-28-2005 10:16 PM

Thanks for the complaments Guys I really like my FWI.
and Yes Todd i do have to trim dow the tubing a bit.

as a side note to you guys that have or will get one .
I did notice( or at least it seems) Today that as the tubing begins to relax
is tends to strech a bit so .... like me you may want to install and then trim.

any one else notice this?

LuxuriesPremier 07-30-2005 11:20 PM

Thisfender well intake wouldn;t work with a supercharged bonnie? the hose and filter dont seem to cost that much would be a cool intake for my SSEI . Im doing the intake and exhaust lettin her breath good
