Default engine swap

Hello all! I have just sign up to this forum and i just have a few questions that you might be able to point me in the right direction. I have just bought a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. I do have some plans for the car but i am use to older small block carb cars! In my car is just the regular old 3800. What I was going to do is buy a 3800 supercharged engine and put it in the SSE. My question is, do I need to change the trans? What about the engine wire harrness? I know i will need to get the correct PCM. i also wanted to know if I could use a new style 3800?? Like out of a 2000+?? What all would need to be changed?? If anybody has done this any help would be great! Thanks for your time!

You will need everything you listed plus there may be more issues from going obd1 computer to obd 2 system. It would be best to buy a wrecked car with the engine you want so you have all the parts you need available. However it may be possible to mix and match with parts from the series 1 supercharged 3.8s. I don't know a whole lot about this but maybe there'* someone who'* done it.

Lots there to consider.

S1 NA to S1 SC. Your easiest way will probably be to get the correct EPROM chip, verify the inner cabin harness can accomodate the change to SC and change the engine harness.

S1 to S2. You'd be changing the engine harness, repinning a bit at the firewall (on the engine harness) and then you would need to consider the other items that would be changing like fuel sender etc.

ok. well I think ill stay with the s1 3800. I think it will be easer that way. The engine I have now is not supercharged but after about 25 min of driving it it starts to drop oil pressure. Its got 150k on it! Does anybody have a link to somebody that has done this before?? i looked but havent found anything.

This may not help you at all but witht he value of the Bonnevilles dropping like lead, you may be better off looking for a newer SSEI or even a GP GTP. I own a 2002 Bonne SSEi in good shape and I can't get sqwat for it on the used market. I know the prices look higher on the boards, craigslist, E-BAy, etc. But when it comes down to sending the money you can usually get the price down substantially. Theres a lot of nice cars out there for good prices. You may end up spending a lot for what you end up with, not to mention the headache of the swap. Mark L

yea i hear ya on that!! But thats with every car!! in 06 i bought a brand new Sonata with 2 miles on it! The next month found out the old lady was prego. So, i ssaid lets trade it in! i spent 21k on it!! 1 month later, 62 miles later the car is worth 14k!! thats 6 grand lost just for buying it! Haha But the bonneville i have close to 0 dollars in it! plus, its not a car that i need or will want to make money on. Its just a toy to play around with! I am used to small block swaps, mostly v8 *-10'*. i just wanted to try something different. But anyways, nobody knows of a thread on here of somebody that has done the swap from a non sc to a sc??

I just replaced my 94 engine and first tryed the newer 3.8 supercharged and there was way to many differances so I have to find an older one to match. I did find one out of a wreck with only 38k it runs great. the supecharged motors also have a higher compretion rate thatn the none.

You will need to get the trans and axles for the supercharged motor this i know for sure more than likely the computer and possibly the engine harness also. Don't quote me on this remember its labor day so a lot of the members are not around or are unwinding from their weekend. Just be patient and i'm sure you will have all your questions answered soon.

Or another route you could go is a top swap judging by your saying the oil pressure drops i would replace the oil pump.150k miles is nothing for a 3800 I have a 94 Bonneville se with 453 thousand miles.
