Default Does it exist??

I don't know or remember where I heard this, but.

Is there a type of muffer, that is hush hush quiet at idle speeds, etc, but when the throttle is wide open, (more vaccumn) the muffler opens up nicly to let a nice purr? I think that type of muffler would be vaccumn modulated, meaning when vaccumn pressure is high, the muffler opens up, to allow more airflow, and a nice deep sound. However, when the throttle or vaccumn demand is not there, (light accelleration and idle) the exhaust is hush hush quiet?

If so, is there such a setup avalible for our cars?

The system you mention is on Porshe Carrrera GT'*, BMW X3'* and the Cadillac XLR_V'*. It is intake vacuum actuated with an electric selenoid that powers a flap in the muffler. It'* pretty cutting edge technology and I have never heard of an aftermarket muffler with this system though.

The system Peter mentions is and electric cutout system that bypasses the exhaust completley

Trucks! the tv show on Spike had just the device you're looking for on it about a year and a half ago. They were not cheap back then, I looked them up and they were like $350 each

Unfortunately I can't recall who made them or what they were called, and my googles have been unsuccessful.

Never heard of them... Cool idea though. You could do an electric cutout with a hobbs switch for the same effect.

I think the 3000GT VR4 had something like this. But it was more than just the muffler. It was tied to the computer somehow. I'll ask my Brother when I get home.

Does the Flowmaster Delta series to a similar thing? Gets loud at high power but fairly quiet otherwise?
