Default DHP PowrTuner discontinued

Can't say I'm surprised, given DHP'* near total lack of support for the product lately.

Well i dont think this will really affect all that much. Just no tech support or anything, but from what i understand that will not be much of a change.

Well, aside from non-existent tech support, it does affect alot...

Apart from all the "coming soon" feature updates that were promised by DHP (and have now vaporized), the PowrTuner was clearly advertised as having "crazy wide open" access to all GM v6 PCM'* from 97-04; however, in actual fact, you can't use it to edit the .bin file on your PCM unless the OSID for your year/make/model/engine is already mapped out in the PT software database. (You don't learn this tidbit until after you buy, BTW )

Most GP'* and GTP'* are already mapped out, but only a spattering of other make/model/year/engines are currently mapped out. For instance, neither my '98 nor '04 LeSabres were mapped out when I received mine; thank goodness I got them to update the database to include them before now--although that took three months after I received the hardware. FYI, many Bonneville model/years are not currently mapped.

So here'* the problem: DHP states that they plan no further database updates; so, alot of people who bought the PowrTuner thinking they'd be able to tune certain cars with it are very likely going to be SOL. DHP also states that they intend NOT to go open source (allowing third parties to continue development of the software)...how'* that for a kick in the 'nads?

Want another groin kick? The third party DHP was contracting to work on the software recently signed a 7-year NDA that prevents them from further developing the software.

Best case speculation is that DHP is looking to sell off the rights to PT...we'll see about that, and what it will mean (in terms of $$$) to new--and to current--customers.

There are certain cars I've been trying to get DHP to add to the database since June. I guess I'll be waiting a much, much longer time now, eh?
