Transmission question
Would the 4T60-E heavy duty transmission benefit from a limited slip differential? Been reading about them and it looks good, but I was wondering if we'd benefit from it?

Talk to Rogue (Todd Allen), an LSD is one of the best things you can do for a tranny. Uniform wheel spin is good stuff. When doing a burnout or even a light chirp off the line, you want the tires to spin at the same rate.

Ask yourself when the last time you did a one-wheel-wonder in a straight line was.
Every car in good condition on this Forum will lay twins in a straight line, both of mine included, and yours too.
Now balance that fact against the cost of an LSD for your car.
That enormous chunk of money will buy alot of other mods.
An LSD is for a HARDCORE track hound or roadcourse driver.

Exactly my point. For most of us, it'll make no difference. For a very few, that little extra edge is worth pursuing.
I had my diff rebuilt HD rather than LSD.

all I have to say is the stocker can run 9s, if done correctly.
And an LSD does nothing if not used correctly. Less failures with stock (if driven right)
and a whole lot more failures with an LSD.
*FYI-I have used an Intense and a c-ya. both destroyed themselves. and I have YET to break a stocker (knock on wood). With over 400 passes using stock diffs.

Even if you manage to get 2 black lines on a street burnout with a stock dif, the rate at which the tires are spinning is usually not the same. If anyone has ever gotten hard on a GTP or SSEi with power you probably notice the car shift left then right. This is torque steer because power is being applied unevenly (more power to one side, then the other). An LSD virtually eliminates torque steer as well as makes sure during a burnout that both tires are not only spinning, but at the same rate.
Even during a two wheel burnout if the tires are spinning at a different rate then scoring can occur on the pinion shaft. Eventually this will lock the pinion shaft to the spider gear causing a dramatic failure. If the stock differential was so great, GM wouldn't have come out with their torsen designed racing differential very similar to the Quaife. And for those who are not in the know both the quaife and the GM version of the differential have been failing left and right.
Right now there is no perfect solution for the differential problem. INTENSE hopes to address as many of the shortcomings as possible while maintaining high reliability. We have been designing, testing and redesigning our Gen III for almost 10 months now and we are very close to a release. The Gen III has a completely different design team from the first two releases and for the price point it WILL be the best available option.

I may be wrong here, but my understanding is that torque steer is primarily cause by the different length/angle of the drive axles due to the configuration of the trans under the car.
The more even or alike they are on other cars, the less torque steer.
If the rate of burn is different, it can't be by much. I can't tell the difference between my twins, and just laid a good 50' in Portland a few days ago. Both tires.
The long and the short of it is that it doesn't typically buy you much in terms of ET. The hardcore track hounds may need that little extra, but I seriously doubt it'* the .1 off the 60' that some mention. I watched two identically modded cars this year at the track, one with and one without an LSD. There was no edge to be seen.
