i have an apc civic intake
its not the best fit, but if you jam and squeeze like i did, itll work fine. it was only 50 or so dollars from jegs

You've got to do things the hard way????
 

First you take out your existing airbox. Then you take your stock rubber intake hose and put it on the throttle body backwards. Next you buy a piece of 3" pvc 45 degree angle piece and drill a hole in one side for the IAT paint the piece of PVC connect you K&N cone filter apply the stickers and bam you just installed your K&N in 1/2 hour. by the way the total install cost me $55 including the K&N filter. :P

That stock rubber hose defeats the whole purpose of going with a cone filter. That's like buying matches, and dumping water in them before you try to light them.

You need to get rid of the turbulence. It's costing you flow, even though it's bigger. You need LAMINAR velocity. You have no better flow than a stock airbox with a drop-in K&N.

You're using the stock rubber accordian pipe? Not smooth the last time I looked at it in the garage. Read the article I posted above.

We probably need to add some more info to that Techinfo article, but here it is in a nutshell:

Non-Supercharged: Very critical to get any turbulence out of the intake. Turbulence restricts airflow. This is why the Series 2 guys gut their airboxes as a first mod. You can actually get more airflow out of a smaller diameter if it's smooth, than you can out of the larger accordian intake boot. Getting the airflow laminar not only increases the actual volume and velocity, but it also gives more accurate MAF readings.

Supercharged: You'd think since the SC makes a 'mess' of the air as it compresses it, that this wouldn't be as critical as NA, but it is. Because of the SC's thirst for volume, you need the same setup. You need gobs of air in available, and the best way to increase the volume is with a restriction-free, non-turbulent intake.
