to me the 96 seems underated to me. The 97 and the 98 SSEi'* i drove in teh passed has more pull than mine.

I think the 4T65 allows more power to the wheels than the 4T60. Hence, why the 97-99 are faster.

I would think it'* quite the opposite. I believe the 4T60 has less drivetrain loss. Steve'* car isn't running too well.

The extra electronic controls on the 4T65 are somewhat limiting until you take care of it with a PCM.

I think the upper RPM power figures will be more relevant to racing, especially off the track. You run through the lower RPM'* once, but after that you're burning up the high RPMS. What good is more lower torque if you can't use it? The chassis can only put down so many lb/ft of torque with a given set of tires, and any decently modded L67 can surpass that. Focusing on HP over torque will net a better run in say the 1/4, but wont show up as much in 60' and 330'*.

Yes even my car can burn the tires (not 30 ft but still), but the SSEi'* really burn me after about 3500-4000 RPM where the intake manifold just isn't built for the revs in my car, where the SSEi keeps cramming air in. Comparing L36 to L27 manifolds you can see the difference in runner lengths right away, and that'* a big reason to the different power bands.

If you've got a 93 with no good engine/tranny then a series II swap wouldn't be a bad idea. It'* only extra work in the wiring sense, but having the same body with the updated platform makes this much easier then say putting an LS1 in a 93 vette.

im getting kinda hooked on the supercharged power...lol. i want to do a couple of little mods, like a 2.3", intake, and possbile a highflow cat/ muffler. anymore than that isn't worth it on this engine/trans, to many miles. since im hooked, im already looking at 97-99 ssei'*.....that wont be for a while, and id rather save for a gto (my dream car). as far as pcm'*, i believe dhp can custom burn any 97+ ssei, right?

bonneMEmn, thats exactly what im saying, if youve got enough power to lay tire down at any mph below 30, how is even more torque going to benifit you? what you should focus on is traction and higher rpm power

I have to preload to get 30' of rubber at a standstill. I can manage my launches just fine off the line. You have to know how to drive your car.

My 1995 SLE SC ran a 9.797 in the 1/8 mile with only a intake, 180* t-stat, and 8mm wires (which is good for all of .5 hp ...maybe).
My 1999 SSEi ran a 9.794 in the 1/8 mile with an intake, 180* t-stat, 8MM wires, 3.4" pulley, Magnaflow Wide Open muffler, and more weight reduction.
Nearly identical 60'*.
That'* a Series 1 without two major mods (no pulley, and no high flow muffler) and their times are only .003 different. That says alot.
Series 1 owns, hands down, at the low end.

I agree 100%. My BONE STOCK 95 ran a 15.1 in the 1/4 in 135 degree track temps at 90mph trap, HORRIBLE conditions with factory installed plugs at .075". With the SAME driver, 30 minutes later, I ran a SLOWER time with a better launch in a bone stock 97 SSEi.

I would also like to add that when I ran my 1995 the track temps were near 125*.
When I ran my 1999 SSEi the track temps were in the 70'* and without the humidity.
