oil life isnt a sensor, its a proprietary algorithm that factors mileage/hours/type of use since last reset.
i think i remember reading somewhere that some trucks that didnt get the higher DIC option dont have the buttons, i dont remember though if they said they can just plug it in if they buy one.

Not a problem man and the original question wasn't really a cheap one, it just there is not a cheap (easy) answer. The sensors are there for the engine to preform diagnostics on the fly and even the PCM uses that feature to tweak engine tuning....., but GM wants it'* Buck and designed diagnostcs to be part of OnStars subscription. I still pay to keep OnStar. Phone/Emergency Response/Tow Service/Diagnostics/Insurance Discount/Theft Protection/Unlock Service (I have used that a couple times)/Insurance Discounts. Pretty good perks for $18.95/month. If stolen OnStar can even track the car, shut down the engine, and call the nearest Police.
