From what I understand, you can't use a 160 without changing the PCM, because it will try to compensate to get the engine to 'normal' operating temps, i.e. hotter fire, more fuel, etc.

I installed a 160 degree stat in my car, about 2 weeks later the SES light came on; Scan tool was plugged in and the code read was soemthing about engine undertemp; I have the 194 degree stat in there now and I NEED to put something in, so either a. I will put the 160 in and keep a scan tool handy to reset, or b. just go with the 180 (like everyone else is suggesting)

ON ANOTHER NOTE!!!

A friend of mine has a GMC 1500 Truck, he is going to "upgrade" his PCM by using a handheld tool that makes modifications to the computer.

This thing connects to the car makes changes; you can always undo those changes to. You can also optimize the engine for 87 or 92/93 octane. They don't have one for the 2002 Bonneville (which is what I have) but a sales rep said he would have one after the first of the year, for about $435

ASE makes a great chip for the person who plans to stay within a basic format only straying to add a pulley or a few other basic add ons. If you want to go the serious rout be ready to call on DHP and let them know exactly what you need. Usually it will require a DHP rep to reprogram your unit while on a dyno.

Yes there is a rep in Canada and many in the US.

It is not a chip the company is Digital horsepower DHP and they reprogram your obd2 3.8l computer. I have a few people do the computer options I offer but they do not do the DHP unit. I have talked with the Canadian rep and DHP is most likely not looking for more online reps but they work with and offer options through other programmers. Currently there is one rep in Canada and there might be another.

If there is no deal made on the west coast of Canada I can set up a deal with one of the programmers I work with and offer the same options.

For a stock car or slightly modified car ASE chips is a great option for your car.
