Wow, the HPtuner looks like it'* also certainly worth the money. Is it very difficult to understand the binary coding?

HPTuners is very powerful and you basically have the keys to everything in the PCM so depending on your apptitude and tuning knowledge you can get a very good tune but you do have the potential to do some serious damage. HP Tuners has a very good help system that tells you what each parameter does and as long as you do tweaks in small isolated increments I think you can not only learn a lot about tuning but dial your car in pretty well.

Will it work on the stock PCM or would it only work on a non-encrypted PCM like the ones offered at Intense?

Stock PCM'* are non-encrypted as well.
