Keep in mind that if your changing your TB to a larger one, you will need to have access to a tuner to change the tables.

Average rebore runs $100-150. And 4-6 % average HP gain if it'* a standalone mod. You will see alot of outlandish claims on the internet. Like saying HP gains up to **%. It'* a hat trick. Sure on a 1000HP engone it gives 20 HP, but to a 250... thats 5HP. Thats just as an example. And I heard of alot of them being screwed up. I dont think it'* worth the bother unless your looking to shave a 10th of a second of a track time.

Hey Dan..
If a car is MAS equipped you can change alot before flashing the computer. Generally speaking, all of my MAS equipped Mustang and F-body friends changed rockers, cams, MAS size, Exhaust, TB size.. The list goes on. If the car was speed density equipped then you had to upgrade convert to MAS and everything is fine. Are these cars different? I trust what you say since you are the man in regards to these cars/engines.

Thanks,
Dean

The PCM can compensate to a point but changing the TB would require some tweaks to the MAF table. MAS is not something I'm familure with, sorry.

A polished throttle body flows more than an OE throttle body, but the MAF reading is the same because the MAF doesn't account for the lost turbulence (smooth flow along the inside).

My 99 went from the Series 2 upper intake manifold and throttle body to a Series 3 UIM and a Series 2 supercharged 3800 throttle body. It absolutely had to be re-tuned because otherwise it ran insanely lean on the stock tables. I think it'* a generally nice mod because the manifold tapers down and has an oval air entry. Some out there are pretty confused about the benefits, especially given that GM changed its HP rating for emissions reasons for the Series 3, but the aluminum UIM actually tested to provide more volumetric efficiency and therefore more power.

You may not have access to a tuner, but you only need to have someone throw on the appropriate MAF tables to get your car running with a larger throttle body. Whether you run with a larger throttle body because you have changed the UIM or because you feel like it and yet have everything else stock, please make sure to get the car re-tuned no matter how you change the throttle body.

ya know thats true even a "polish" would basically do the same thing as if i bored it it couldnt meter the air that went though lol thats why i love brainstorming. im saving up to one day get the tuner set up unless someone in the south east wants to help a brother out
