Default Air to Ait intercooler

Has anyone in the states tried running Air to Air intercooling like the do on the Commodores? The engine and motor are the same, so it being in a different car shouldn't matter too much, besides how the LIM is made.

Here is a kit for Air to Air intercooling on a Commodore

Discuss / Argue

Right, for turbos that almost required, but doing an eaton SC A2A intercooler is what I am asking about.

Thats gonna be a challenge, you need to get boosted air through that IC heat exchanger then back into the LIM, if you had a procharger then it would be easy to do, but i would like to see if it could be done

Pros and Cons of both, please add any if you can think of them. If its worth it I will design it, if that'* good enough I will prototype and test it.

Pros
Water
  1. Will cool sitting still (until water heat soaks)
  2. Can use ice to achieve sub ambient temps
  3. Shorter path for ait to travel
Air
  1. Nothing to fail, or leak
  2. Almost maintence free
  3. Larger cooling surface area
  4. Cooling increases with speed

Cons
Water
  1. Pump failure / coolant leaks
  2. Smaller cooling surface area
  3. only as good as the pump is powerful
Air
  1. little to no cooling at a stop (Break Torque)
  2. Boost lag from longer, more complex air passage
