88 Bonne LE convert to Rally
Alright, I know it sounds crazy, but I'm thinking of turning my 88 Bonneville LE into a rally car. Maybe I've been watching too much Monster Garage but I'm almost ready to pull it into the garage and go nuts. Just checking to see what everyone thinks, if I get enough encouragement I might just start it. Let me know
... that just makes it more fun for us

That would be sick. You should DefinatlY do it. I love watching those races on tv and if i saw a bonny flying around i'd go abesh!t!!!!! If you do decide to do it then please do take pics lots and lots of pics.

I have thought of the same thing and even did the calculations to see what class you could run the car in.

Here are the adjusted displacment rules.
Adjusted displacement
Most displacement limits are based on naturally aspirated, two-valves-per-cylinder piston engines. Anything more sophisticated has its displacement multiplied by whatever multipliers apply to it. These are the current SCCA multipliers:
Rotary engine: 1.8
Forced induction: 1.7
Pushrods: 0.8
Diesel: 0.8
3 valves per cylinder: 1.1
4 valves per cylinder: 1.2
variable valve timing: 1.1
If an engine has more than one of these features, every multiplier must be used. An Acura RSX Type-*, for example, has a 1998cc engine with four valves per cylinder and variable valve timing, so its displacement has to be multiplied by 1.2 and again by 1.1. The total adjusted displacement is 2637cc
You have to use a NA 3800 or you will get moved out of Group 5 and you can't compete in the other classes with a 2WD car.
You would also have to convert the Bonne to manual since an automatic will not work in a rally race. You have to have a manual to do some of the rally driving techniques.
I think the Getrag 5 speed from a Fiero will work in a bonne and I am sure some other trannys will too.

Seats are gutted
The 88 LE is now a one-seater. The cars been sitting for awhile so it seems it needs a new fuel pump. As long as time prevails,(I'm going to the military), then this project seems to be underway, I'll be sure to take pictures along the way and get them up. It looks like it'* gonna be late nights of throwing tools and many cans of snuff, I'd have it no other way. I'll keep ya posted.

Sorry I didn't get back sooning, I've been in a mourning period. Seems engine problems are too far gone to be fixed. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait till after Basic Training to realize my dream. 
With a month left and one more drag race to attend, it looks like it'* back to the confusing as hell import Nissan to turn into a rice burner. Sorry to all the hopefuls but there'* always next summer, I'll be sure to post if this project does get underway.
