Default 5.0L engine compatable for a swap?

I just acquired a 1984 Lincoln Mark 7, it has a 5.0L v8. I was wondering, could I do an engine swap with this, is it compatable? I have a 1992 SE model Bonneville.

Thanks.

honestly a l67 would be 1000x cheaper to make everything work 1984 5.0 v8-140hp, l67-240hp......and how would it bolt up to the transaxle?

leaving the Why question out of it...

short answer No with a but, long answer yes with an if.

the hardest part would be the transaxel mating surface. you'd need to bolt in an adapter plate. not there is an adapter plate made to addapt chevy v-8'* to our trannies, and plates made to addapt ford and chevy'* together, you could theoreticly double stack the plates and bolt it all together. but you'd need a custom flywheel and spacers.

of course you'd then run into clearencing issues, because not only is the engine longer, but you've also got 2 inch thick adapter plates in the way.

v-8 swaps in fieros (which only use 1 adapter plate) are forced to notch their frames and cut clearencing holes in their wheelwells to clear the water pump.

once you get the thing in there you'll be forced to create a set of motor mounts and plumb and wire the motor. these are all relitivly simple things, barring the wiring.

the simple way to mount a v-8, if you really want a v-8 is to mount a 4.9 liter caddalac v-8. i had one of these in my fiero and found it emensly powerful. with dual exhaust, a cam regrind MSD ignition and a holly 600 cfm 2bbl you'll be putting out 230 horse and 325 torque. this will also bolt directly to youur current transmission. while it is not difficult to pull this out of an L67 and the L67 is a great motor, the V-8 offers you three things the L67 cannot.

1: low torque peak with a broad curve. think L27, only more of it.
2: V-8 WOW power. while it may not even be as powerful, a v-8 under the hood will turn some heads...
3: it'* alluminum. the v-8 will weigh less than your 3.8

The L67 has a VERY low torque peak and the curve is nearly flat right up to 5000 RPM.

It'* not impossible, just very difficult. You either have to have immense mechanical knowledge or deep pockets. 80'* V-8'* are usually pretty bad canidiates just for the power they put out. Pretty much every bonny has more power than that 5.0. The L67 has great low end torque. 280 at 3200 rpms. And yes having a V-8 in a car that shouldn't is very cool, but I think beating V-8'* with a V-6 is cooler.

If you want to swap, pick the donor motor from a performance and practical standpoint. That dog of a 5.0 is neither. Stock 92/93 SSEi'* spank them daily.

The LN3 can beat that particular 5.0. The 140hp Ford 5.0 from the mid 80s is a high 17- low 18 second engine. Hell, a LC3 could beat it.

Instead of using a Ford V-8 why couldn't he use a 4.0L Aurora V-8??? The Aurora is the same platform as the Bonneville and he could have about 260 horspower. If I am correct about the horsepower. Would it be easier to put the 4.0 in the Bonneville than the 5.0??
