I've seen mention of this size of engine being considered for the Bonneville as built from a 3800.
Would the 4.3 Vortec be a feasible swap here?

Not really...the 4.3 Vortec is a rear-drive configuration. The block casting, motor mounts and transmission (transaxle) mounting is completely different.

If you are serious about putting a bigger motor in your car, talk to Ty (Speedyguy) about a Northstar V8 conversion.

This may sound retarded, but, I might be very satisfied with my Series I engine after all...

No muss, no fuss, except for the non-EGR thing, which I may be looking into 'rectifying' this Spring.
I know I'm older and a little wiser, because I actually enjoy the thought of taking what the factory put in there and using better components and chemistry to keep it functional without having to mess around under the hood all the time.

The other consideration is that the 4.3 isn't that much more powerful than your '92 3800. The 1995 and up 4.3'* in stock form were only producing 190 hp. If you are interested in a swap, just pull a '92-'93 Series I. It will give you 205 hp, fit right in, and give you the desired EGR. You have most of the wiring already, and would only have to worry about the tranny (You would need to pull the 4T60E HD tranny with the engine) and the PCM.

And no, that is not what I did to my SE. It was stock from the factory Supercharged.

We're talking about the L67 SC version from 92/93 here. It would require the PCM, engine wiring harness, and tranny. You'd be the first to attempt it!
