Default 2001 Aurora, swapping to '04 Bonneville Engine/Transmission.

Hello Everyone,

I'm a newby & am in the planning/purchasing stages of swapping the engine with an '04 Bonneville 275 HP. The reasons are many, but the main one is that I have a trans leak that can only be fixed with engine/trans removal. So, since I want more power, & I have the m out already, a better engine seems like a good idea.

That being said, I know that the engine electronics are compatible, but I haven't been able to find definitive information as to Transmission compatibility. I already bought the '04 engine & would like to use the trans as well.

Does anyone know for sure whether the '04 Bonneville trans will work in my '01 Aurora?

Thanks,

Ed

Billboost or SGP358 should be able to answer the transmission question. There may be a difference in mounts, but I can't say for sure.

What tranny is on your shortstar now? If it'* a 4T6xx there is considerable reworking, but possible. I also don't think the sensor'*/wiring are going to be a direct swap type of thing either. having the PCM from the donor car would make things alot easier.

The PCM may not line up with the pin out of the wiring harness.

The PCM from the donor car isn't available. Anyone have a part # for the '04 Bonneville PCM?

The LD8 (4.6L) your getting comes with the 4T80 so it should be direct replacement. The PCM/ECM is
ACDELCO Part # 12587465
MODULE,Powertrain Control w/TIER 2 PHASE-OUT FED EMIS(NT9) or LEV II PLUS CAL EMIS(NU4)
$509.79

Thats probably the cheapest new price you'll find @ www.rockauto.com
https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raf...8Y%2529%2BDOHC

A good place to get used GM FWD parts is Ed Morad. Here'* the parts request webpage with his phone number.

Ok, I'm confused. It sounds like you are swapping the Bonneville engine/trans into the Aurora, but the HP and John'* post make me think it'* the other way around.

One concern going between the two transmissions is that the shift soleniods are reverse polarity IIRC, but that'* been solved for in the past. So that'* easy enough.

Check Ebay for a PCM, should get a better price. Local salvage yards may have a PCM as well. You will need the PCM programed to match your VIN, this shouldn't be a problem if you get it from Ebay, most will program the PCM.
