My fuel gauge still doesn't work (known problem with the sending unit). I'm looking into getting Casper'* "Hot wire" kit to increase the voltage to the unit(*), but to install that, the tank needs to get dropped. Since I'm going in there, I might as well fix the sending unit. However, I was thinking that since I have 135K+ I might as well replace the pump too (preventative maintenance). I'm planning on investing more (headers, smaller pulley, rockers, rollers). Should I upgrade my pump/sending unit or just replace w/ factory? Any suggestions were to buy?
The Casper'* hot wire will not work on 96-99 Bonnes; actually no one makes a fuel pump hot wire kit that works for us 96-99 guys. If you want a hot wire you will have to make your own.
Be prepared to pay about $300 for a new Ac Delco sending unit. Currently I'm in the search for other sending units and I've only found 1 that might work and Rockauto.com carries that one which is about 1/2 the price; but the quality is unknown. TREperformance.com has a 255LPH pump ( model 340 used in Mustang applications but is not listed as compatible with 96-99 Bonnes on their site) which will work on our cars with little modification if you choose to go that route.
