Default 1970 Bonneville Performance exhaust modifications

Greetings, I am new at the forum - what a great site... I just acquired a completely origninal 1970 Bonneville Convertible with 110K original miles, 455 CI 4BBL, - and have just had the transmission and Rockchester Carb rebuilt, also the Valves adjusted and a good tune-up. It still needs a cracked manifold and tail pipes repaired/replaced. While not a dummy with engines, etc. I am not particularly mechanically inclined. I'd like to beef up the exhaust somewhat, and with the manifold work which is in order, was considering some headers as well. I believe I would have this work done at my local garage. Not sure of whether I should try ordering replacement parts (headers, mufflers, pipes) online or just go to a Flowmaster, ect dealer/garage to have the work done turn-key. Would anyone have suggestions as to my approach - web sites to consider (turn-key purchase)?, just stick with a local performance dealer/shop? brands? Maybe I should just leave the cracked manifold alone as it is pretty loud now lol... Thanks in advance...

Welcome to the forum. Please include your year and trim level in your signature. There is information on how to do that in the "Introductions for New Members" area.

With the year of your car, you probably not going to find many 'turn key' (off the shelf) performance parts. You may want to look in eBay or do a Google search for specific parts for your year, or just be prepared to crack the wallet open and have custom work done.

As mentioned we are mostly involved in Bonnevilles of later years. An excellent source of older model parts/info is frankspontiacparts. Hope you stick around and post some pics and details of your rebuild. We are always looking for members with older models here.
