Default 180 thermo -vs- 160

I noticed most of you have the 180 thermo mod and only a few the 160. Is there an advantage to the 180 over the 160? Wouldn't the 160 be the 'cooler' mod?

the 160 would be pretty much dedicated to track use. Your PCM wouldn't like it for a daily driver.

I prefer a drilled 180 myself.

Bill hit it on the nose, 160 is for track use ONLY. You want a 180 for a street car.

I dunno, I don't have any problems with my 160, but my chip is tuned for it.

Drilled one or more holes in the rim of the thermo, so coolant can always flow just a little.

How big (and where) should you drill these holes?
Anyone got any pix?

Well, I did it when I used a 180. Two holes, close to the center on the outer rim, maybe 1/16" or 3/32". You could do up to four, I've heard. I don't have any pics, but here is a pic from ZZP (I hope they don't mind):

I too have to agree with Bill here.....
A 160 would be too cold for street use only. A 180 on the other hand works well, especially if you drill no more than 2 - 1/16" holes in it too. a 160 will NEVER let the engine come up to operating temp for the ECU/PCM & will throw code after code too. A 180 will not throw a code unless something else is at fault.
