I wanted to do some chopping on my stock airbox after seeing it in another thread. Here'* what I did. Tools needed- dremel with cut-off disks and a thin hand saw (jigsaw blade in a vise grip worked great for the plastic ribs that the dremel can't reach).

Here are some before pics of one half

Second half

She sounds a bit better, with more of a 'woosh' when gunning it. However, this sound isn't quite as pronounced as those I've heard with cold air intakes and probably FWI (as I've never heard one). Not bad for a half hour and $0.

The surgery looks successful.
The SC engines will produce a much sweeter sound amplifying the whine.
In a NA engine it will produce a lower tone and sound of air rushing in. You might even see 1 or 2 mpg better on the highway.
You will notice a better power gain from a cone filter, as long as it is isolated from the 130 F engine bay heat.

Nice, I did not go as far as you did when I did mine, just around the rectangle and I left the ridge that goes over the PCM. Although looking at that gave me and idea, maybe cut back the tube that goes to the rest of the intake a bit short and maybe put a cone filter on there? Wonder if it is a possibility?
