Default Want to swap to a manual.

I have a 1995 Oldsmobile cutlass Ciera wagon with the 3.1. This is my daily driver, so I don’t abuse her at all. Everything about her is perfect except she isn’t a manual. So I have been looking for cars that came as a manual, so that I could take everything out of that car to put into mines. It’* been a little difficult to find manual cars. I came across a thread saying most of all gm trans are compatible from 90-06. So I found a1997 Saturn *-Series 4 cylinder with everything I need. Do you it should hook up to my car and work. And yes I’m sure I will have to do mods inorder to get to mount it and all of that stuff.

If you are a mechanic/magician you might have a chance.

The short answer here is: When you do enough mods, it will work.

The longer answer is: You'll have to modify everything, including the guts of that Saturn transaxle. It wasn't designed for that kind of power and torque. If you can find a way to do that, you'll also have to:

- fabricate everything related to having a reliable clutch pedal in the car
- find adapters to bolt the engine and transaxle together in workable fashion (probably custom machine work)
- change out axle shafts etc.
- maybe change wheel bearings
- fabricate all engine/transaxle mounts to hold this combination

Be sure to set aside at least a few grand for this.

Default Parts Compatibility

Not many A-bodies sold in the US with manual transmissions. Many in Mexico though. Otherwise, most folks tend to adapt a Getrag 282 5 speed transmission from other GM cars, the J-bodies being the most common. IF you can find an X-body, they can be donors too. Our A-bodies evolved from the X-body cars, so there are other parts (linkage/cable, pedals) that could be used.
