That Olds likely has the 2.84.

Your 96 likely has the 3.06.

What would you have to do to run the 3.06 tranny in the car that had a 2.94??

Something would have to be done about the computer in the 2.94 car. I'm guessing that it would be easiest to just swap computers if the 3.06 tranny came out of the same model and year.
