Transmission Issues.
Hello guys, it'* been a while!
Well, the other day, I had a bit of an accident. I had to swerve to avoid a deer, and I ended up going off the road a little, bottoming my car out prettttty good in the process. After driving back onto the road, making sure nothing was damaged (everything was fine), I drove back into town. I turned my car off, everything was fine. When I restarted it, I got a SES light, and the car started shifting verrrry..roughly. When it shifted, it would jerk/feel very odd. I got my scantool, and received the code P0742 "Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stock On"
Once I cleared the code, it shifted perfectly. Not a single problem. But within a week, the code was back on, and it was shifting like crap again.
Note- The tranny pan didn't appear to be damaged/leaking/anything like that.
Anybody have any ideas as to how I can fix this? If so, what does it involve?

So in order to get to it, I'd have to haul the tranny out? Or is it something I can do on a lift? (I have access to a full garage, lift, tools, torches, etc.)
If it was a plug that got knocked loose, which plug is it? Do you have a picture of it?

If it'* the TCC solenoid you can replace it using a lift. you have to drop the subframe and lower the drivers side of the engine enough to access the side cover of the trans. take side cover off and the solenoids are right there. while your in there might as well do all of them. if it is just the plug you can reach that from under the hood it will be top dead center on the trans.

Odd you say he needs a lift Steveo.?????.. We did your sidecover in my garage on the floor. With jackstands and jacks.
First thing to do is look at the wiring that you can work with under the hood. It'* possible soemthing got hit/nicked etc. A few of us know that most trans soleniods are controlled via ground from the PCM and that the power all comes in on one wire. Dan helped us learn that lesson.
Moving the wires around and seeing if the code comes back on would be some of my first steps. Then a trans service, maybe add a seafoam trans tune that goes after deposits as an additve. Test the ohms of the soleniod vs what it should be hot/cold. There are many things for you to check/test before pulling the side cover.

Steve didn't say he needed a lift, just said you can use a lift because the poster said he has a lift.
Yes, removing the side cover should be the last step. It'* going to be a 10 hour day to do that, so make sure all other steps are covered first.

10 hour day? C'mon Dan. We can pull the trans, clean it and reinstall it in 10 hours.
I've gotten the procedure that I can write up, down to about 2-3 hours total. That'* on my back w/o the lift or trans jack that would make it easier.
