New battery, New alternator not holding charge
Having trouble with my 86 cutlass supreme. I've replaced the battery and alternator (4 times), but still doesn't want to charge. I also replaced the connection that goes to the alternator and still nothing. Any ideas as to what it could be?
So I assume you have put a voltmeter across the battery, to see if it is being charged, and it isn't.....even at around 2000 rpms?
There are only two connections to the alternator....the large red wire that is connected with a nut to the back of the alternator, and then the harness connection which is a single wire, and all that is for is to turn on the red BAT light in the dash....I assume this light is on, when not charging?
If you have replaced the battery and alternator, I would be looking at the large red wire.....make sure it is not open......with the engine off(not running), take a test light and attach it across the terminals of your battery and notice the brightness......leave the test light attached to the negative terminal....now take the other end of the test light, and attach it to the red wire going to the alternator...is the test light the same brightness?

Ok, is this a 5.0 or 3.8?
You replaced the connector....the red wire is in terminal A and the brown is in terminal B? And that connector, term A, is bright with a test light?
