Unhappy Cutlass Ciera 3100 v6 BIG LEAK??

so i am new to this thread but used the search tool and cant find a thing about my problem.. Sooo here it goes, the other day i started my ciera 3.1 as i was on my lunch break from work. After about 10 seconds i hear what sounds like something spraying out so i hurried to shut it off, after i shut it off i got out, only to discover that about 3 quarts of oil were laying beneath it so i started looking to see if i could see if i could find where it was leaking from.. i took the old oil filter off and put a new one on, dumped oil back in it had a buddy start it again thing i may have had a filter gasket go bad?? only to find that it starts spraying out of the oil filter gasket again? please help me i'm at a loss of what to do! anyone ever heard of this happening before??

I have seen something similar when I did an oil change on my car and failed to noticed the old filter left the gasket on the engine. Check and see if the old seal is still stuck on the engine.

If you are sure it is coming from the oil filter gasket, Mike is right. The old gasket is probably stuck on there.

never pulled that one but have had some buddies do it before, i always check.. lol i read somewhere online that someone said that they were having a similar problem and it happened to be the oil pressure bypass valve inside the oil pump causing far too much pressure and ballooning oil filters. I'm starting to thing thats my problem

Inspecting the filter will tell you either way. Extra gasket or damage to the filter from pressure (although I never heard of that one before). Do you have an oil pressure gage? What does it show?
