Default 92 Olds and fuel

My parents 92 Olds 88 wouldn't start yesterday. After dad tried several things including checking pressure, fuses and relays associated with the fuel pump, he only got a trickle of fuel at the test port. He did get it to run momentarily with some ether in the intake (he'* a farmer and has it lying around for the tractors), but it would die in a couple seconds. I told him about the pump prime lead next to the battery. He got nothing with battery voltage, then tried the battery charger set to 16V and the pump finally kicked in. He started the car and it continued to run after he removed the charger.

We feel the pump is dying. Any chance it could have just have been ice or dirt in the pump kicked out by a little voltage kick?

Only way to know is to run fuel dryer through there for a couple tanks, and hope it gets better.

Check the relay from the same point. Set to ohms, one lead on the wire, one to ground. Should read open (infinite) until the ignition is turned on, or the other way around. I forget. Anyway, it should change state with a change in state of the ignition switch.

What'* the resistance read when you can read through the pump? (not open circuit)?
Might be corrosion at the pump connector on top of the tank.
