coincidentally that was my last "beater" a 2003 deville with the northstar.
i am 99% certain it had a head gasket issue when I junked it.
maybe this was this thread failure too, although the guys on the caddy forums swore the thread issues were resolved in earlier years than 2003.
the strangest thing
it would overheat and then "pop" coolant would pour out the back of the engine compartment (where, I couldn't see exactly). and honestly sounding like a tea pot squawking out. relieving pressure I assume.
when this happened the temperature would moderate a bit and I could get a few more miles before the dash gauge showed it heat up again

I've heard a debate of exactly when the 'fix' was complete on the Northstar too.
There sure are a lot of nice Devilles / DTS sedans in the wrecking yards, and they are newer than 2003 too. One of the guys pointed out the new radiator and electric fans that are commonly present when an owner has finally given up trying to fix the overheating.

ah! that'* sad, brand new radiator sitting in the wrecking yards.
yeah I came across a few threads on the caddy forums where owners had changed the radiators and talked about new fans. i had an obvious loss of coolant on the back right side of the engine bay, so fortunately I didn't try those routes.
thanks for the input guys, i hope to try to post an update when I got this 99 intrigue back running and on the road. or when I do not...
