1999 Olds 88 v6 3.8 CV halfshaft
I need to replace the RH CV halfshaft on my 1999 88. Is it possible to use a prybar, to pop the inner joint from the transaxle?

Oh I'll be careful... First step will be seeing if I have the b@lls to break loose the axle nut!! On a side note, I was gonna go ahead and refill the transmission with fluid after the filter change, is it ok to do it, before the axle is changed?

If you jack that side up a little more than the left side it will not lose any but why not wait until it's finished. Normally fluids are the last thing to do.

Because I want to move the car, so the front end is facing away from the street ( front end is rather close the street now) would make it much safer for me to work on if I can get the front facing the apartment building ( plus the front would then be under a shade tree)

I'll have to get help installing it after all. But the mobile mechanic I used on my other vehicle isn't sure he can come next weekend, and another guy I know locally is booked up too. This morning I was checking the inner boot on the axle that is on the car now, and the boot was not ripped and torn like I had first thought, looks to be in good condition with no rips/tears.The larger clamp failed. I saw minimal loss of grease from the joint. So for now I'm going to slip the boot back over the joint and re secure it till I can get the remanufactured axle installed.

I took it to a friends shop this morning, to get the axle shaft done. He smacked on the end of the shaft (left nut on end so not to bugger up the threads) for about 15 min straight and it would not budge. He suggested I spray into the axle splines for a week and see if it helps.Honestly, if they made a split boot for the inner joint, I'd have gone with that as there is no noise coming from it now

An update: I took it to a friend's shop this morning to get the axle changed out. He backed the axle nut out to the end (to protect the threads) and proceeded to smack on the end with a hammer. He whacked on it for 15 min and it would not budge at all. So he said to spray it with WD-40 daily for a week or so, then check back. Honestly, if they made a split boot for the inner joint I would have just gone that route, as there is no noise coming from it.
