Default 1993 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Royale odometer issues

Hey forum,

The odometer in my Oldsmobile stopped working at 168,000.5 miles. How do i get it to work again? It'* driving me nuts because I need to know when my next oil change comes up. As an added bonus, the Service Engine Soon light comes on and off as it pleases and it'* been doing that since 2003. How do I fix that because everything else works fine.

Thanks,
Martin

You will likely need to pull the dash apart, and open up the cluster to see what is going on. Either the odometer motor is not getting power, or it is not turning.

My bet: Dry heat is brutal on plastic parts. I would almost be willing to bet money that the gears are cracked in the odometer. I have the same issue, luckily mine is on the trip meter. For it to be fixed properly, everything must be properly documented, otherwise flags get thrown for odometer fraud when you try and pass it on to the next buyer.

Thanks, in fact, the owner'* manual says that the odometer will change to silver when touched. I doubt i'm gonna sell Ol' Roy (my car), I get good mileage.

As long as the speedometer is working fine, I would plan on replacing the cluster. I would get the cluster, and tear apart the old cluster to confirm the failure before everything gets buttoned back up.

Take your car to Autozone and have them scan it for diagnostic trouble codes. They don't charge for this service. The DTC will tell us what is causing the SES light to come on.
