Hey forum,

On wednesday I was driving in my Eighty-eight to a Circle K and it ran fine and idled well when in park. After I got my soda and jumped inside, the old girl wouldn't start. It turns over but doesn't start. Now, the ICM grounds are good, but the fuel pump seems to not kick in. Even when I press the valve on the upper plenum there is pressurized fuel. The engine will turn on for 2-3 seconds and die. I don't know what to check first: the wiring harness or the pump itself. If this has happened to you, can you tell me how to fix it so I don't sink another 80 bucks?

Mine did the same thing last week. I have an 89 Olds Delta 88 with the 3800. Mine was the relay to the fuel pump and a broken body to engine ground. The ground that broke lose on mine was right under the ICM and in connected to my Negative cable. Also check all of the other grounds under the hood. I have a few grounds behind my battery on the passenger side and a few more on the driver side towards the headlight. Also I know that may sound insane but I did it and this is how I found my grounding problem. I hooked up the ground cable to my battery and then attached it to the medal part of my gear shifter and my car started right up. I don't know it the changed much compared to my 89 and your 93 but this it what I did to find and fix my problem. I hope this may help you a little.

What vin is your engine. The vin L 3800 came with most 4 door 1993 model year oldsmobiles. when i turn the key to the 'on' position, the pump should start to make a small noise that it should make. well, mine doesn't turn on and no pressure is going to the fuel lines. I replaced the ICM grounds just after repairing the engine i.e. new connectors that fit the size of the nut'* inner circle.

The letter code for your 3800 is located in the vin and is the eighth character.

By the way, do you know where the fuel reset button is on an oldsmobile?

Well it sounds like either the pump is bad or your oil pressure sender is bad...I ran into this with my 93 Z71 oil pressure sender went bad kills power to fuel pump so you dont blow it up(it thinks you have no oil pressure)

thanks. when i slapped the bottom of the tank, the pump worked and it ran pretty well... until i turned the engine off. so now I know for sure that the pump has gone bad. When I was repairing my cylinder head problem, I also dropped the oil pan and the pressure sensor was good. I also cleaned the pan and put fresh oil in and test drove the car.

Well then yes your fuel pump is going bad..Sorry i wouldnt wish changing them on anybody.Altho i can change a silveraods in about an hour no as many times as ive done it lol
