1986 olds 98 engine - swap or rebuild?
New to this forum, but i have an olds i'm hoping to get back on the road so here goes. my grandparents basically game me their old 1986 oldsmobile 98 regency. the body is in great shape. the engine, not so much. it will either need a rebuild or a swap out. i'm prepared to do either, but i have to decide which to choose. also, i have the stock LG2 model engine, with the flat tappet lifters, not the LG3 with rollers.
if i choose to rebuild, master rebuild kits seem to be around 500 dollars, plus other supplies, i'm hoping i could rebuild for around 800 doing the work myself. (someone correct me if that seems wrong)
however, i'm curious about if i chose to do an engine swap. mainly curious if it would be cheaper. I need to know what engines would fit in my car, and what extra stuff would have to be done to make other engines work, like if there would be computer issues or things like that. this sounds to me like info that has likely been documented before, but i have not been able to find much. if anyone has any links that would help.
Thanks so much.
