Yikes! Those are some nasty pix. Well actually, they are great pix of a really nasty failure. We ought to post those up in the Techinfo article in a "before" section, to encourage people to change out the LIM gaskets and upper intake manifold before this happens.

Tim, did you look at the stovepipe bore in the UIM to see if it perforated? Those LIM gaskets around the coolant passages look like if they weren't leaking already, they had about a week before they would be!

Thanks for the pictures.

Hi,
The stovepipe and the hole it sits in seemed good with no signs of pitting excecpt for near the top of the pipe which cleaned up nicely.

I also didn't have any pitting on the side of the heads where the LIM gaskets mount luckily, so cleanup was fairly easy.

I wish I took some 'after' shots. I did a really good cleaning, spent the better part of a day, and it showed

Also I changed the valve cover gaskets, thermostat, and serpentine belt. My bracket slide-out peice for the mount was already beveled and the whole job was a breeze, under 15 minutes. Its nice not to have any drips in the driveway now.
