I had a look at the Pontiac site tonight and I'm thinking this is not the car for me. I guess if you want what'* likely a quick and sporty car this is an option.

I was pretty disappointed to see there are few of the comfort and convenience options I've become accustomed to. No HUD, no In-Dash navigation (although OnStar Turn-By-Turn is available). There are also fairly limited colour choices. It'* becoming quite apparent why they can offer it for the price.

I'm sure it'* a nice car, but I really expected more (at least in available options) in this age of relatively inexpensive technology. This is supposed to become the new Pontiac flagship and replace the Grand Prix? Even the GP had navigation and HUD options.

I think I'll be sticking with my Bonneville and perhaps look towards a Caddy in the future.

They will have most of those features eventually. Maybe the '09 GXP or later.

Yea, I wouldn't judge it by it'* first production year.

I've said it before, but i'll give up something up (that i've always considered somewhat gimmicky) like HUD, for the chassis differences ANY day of the week, and twice on sunday.

I've used that arguement on the G8board and all I catch is crap from GTO owners. A lot of them have only owned one Pontiac, and it wasn't really a Pontiac, if you know what I mean. Some will say it'* a good thing, but Pontiac doesn't make the kind of Pontiac that loyal Pontiac buyers buy anymore.

Most people that say that have never had a HUD.

edit: I'm not saying a HUD is an acceptable substitute for a proper chassis, but I'm very disappointed with its absence.

People keep comparing the G8 to the 5 Series so the 5 series offers color HUD The option probably costs the price of a used Bonneville but they do offer it.

The lack of a HUD doesn't bother me too much, although I'm starting to like the one in my SSEi. I wouldn't not buy a car because it didn't have that though. I am surprised it doesn't have navigation, I assumed it did because of the LCD, but I guess that'* just for music eh? I would think that navigation would be an option. I wasn't expecting a HUD to be honest, mostly because it seems to be a rare thing these days.

Still though, I think the G8 GT/GXP would be a freaking sweet car to own. Seems well built, looks sporty but not gimmicky, and it'* got some serious factory power. I want one and I think it'* by far the best Pontiac sedan ever. It'* also the car that will redefine Pontiac and shows that GM is serious about building good cars. Why they kept this beast in Australia for so long without bringing it here as a Pontiac sooner is beyond me.

The HUD is disappointing but not my biggest issue. The best you'll get with the seats is 6-way adjusters. Pontiac is claiming that the G8 will be their "Flagship" and to exclude navigation, especially given their line-up in the past, seems like a step backwards.

Quick? Perhaps. But IMO Pontiac is no longer a competitor in the "Sport Luxery" category. This is what has always drawn me to their line-up.

Everybody has to remember. THIS CAR IS NOT A PONTIAC. Its a rebadge just like the GTO.
Hopefully when times get better for GM they can build a nice pontiac flagship from the ground up like the Bonneville.

Retrofitting costs money and adding Pontiacs NAV & HUD woulc have cost too much and taken too much time at introduction. I am actually surprised they added on star to it but then again that makes GM money.

I think the G8 is the type of car you buy after comparing it to some other car and choosing the one with the lower price. It doesn't seem to offer any incentive. It'* of course a nice car since it'* new and fast, but that doesn't make it good.

Good would be an Impala SS or any Buick sedan with the same 5.3L V8. Now that I've seen how the Buicks look and have sat in them, I believe they're the C/W/H-body flagships. They go from the Series III 3800 to the 4.6L Northstar, and some have the LS4. Those are some great cars for the luxury features, the engines, and the styling.
