Default I am so stupid

Back in October I had an interview to start at a Credit Union. The first interview went great and I was referred to the main hiring manager. That interview was early November. After that interview I was told I would know of the decision to hire by the last week of November. I waited until then, and was told that they "had already hired canditates, but would like to consider me for future positions in February." In January I was offered a job at the high school I went to as a technology director making $30,000 a year. I declined the offer, like an idiot, because I was waiting for the credit union job, which started at $30,000 and had a lot of opportunity of growth within a short period of time. Come February I had a third interview with the credit union, this time by the manager that would be my boss at the particular location. After waiting three weeks after the last interview, I sent another email to inquire if they had any decisions ready yet. The tentative hire date was to be March 10th, so Monday would be the last day I could possibly know and put in a full two weeks at my current job. I finally got an email today stating "Thank you for your interest in starting at (insert credit union name here.) Unfortunately the position that we were considering you for is no longer needed due to the slow-down in the economy. We will keep you in mind if any future positions become available."

So basically, I waited SIX months for a job I could have "possibly" had and turned down a job I was pretty much guaranteed to get. I'm so stupid I swear. I was relying on the faith and belief that I was going to get the bank job and it didn't work out. I put all my eggs in one basket if you will. I knew several months ago that I was getting in financial trouble and now it'* going to get worse. I am going to keep looking, but if any of you live in Michigan, you know the economy here is HORRIBLE. The unemployment rate is nearing $15% last I heard. I was really hoping that I would be able to make ends meet without working the current 70-80 hours a week I'm doing. I've been doing that now for two months and I'm just about burned out. I consider this a huge learning lesson and I now know not to wait for a "dream job" if you have another one lined up you can take. Companies really don't care about the individuals, it'* all about making numbers and doing what'* right for the company. I realize that. I just had this dream that it was going to work out, and I let myself get caught up in that to the point that I let this happen to myself. I just had to rant. Thanks for reading.

That'* not stupid at all. If I've learned anything from the many jobs I've had, it'* that you need to be happy. If you wouldn't have been happy working for the school, it was better that you passed it up. All you can do is keep putting yourself out there and following up on apps and interviews. Good luck.
