Wow... never saw this one coming after that party...
So, my friend tried to manually unlock my car with the ignition key instead of the door key, didn't know any better. Naturally it didn't work, and actually.... the piece of $%^& BROKE. in half. He comes to me with my key in two pieces at 2 AM, I don't have a spare.
Then, it is his brilliant (sarcasm) idea to shove the front piece of the key into the ignition, then put the other half in. It actually consistently starts
So now, instead of just making a new key, I get to figure out how to get that tiny piece out of there. Kinda fascinating though, it starts pretty reliably with a dismembered key

ahh yes, I have had experience with this type of thing. It happened with my grandfather'* Ford Contour (biggest POS ever, he even admitted it) when I was going to WalMart for him. I locked the door fine, but I left the lights on (used to the twilight sentinel, lmao), so I tried to unlock it and it broke off! This was during a very cold night, also. What I did was I got the other half of it out with a paperclip, drove home with the 2nd key on the keychain, woke up the next morning (it was 10pm, so they were asleep, thank god), and went over to a locksmith in my car and made a copy of the key. Works great.
Hmm, paperclip sounds better than taking the stupid thing apart. It was like the worst time for it to happen, cause the party was ending and no one could drive, we were about to call a taxi :P
