Let'* get this discussion back on a civil note. Mouse step it down and Crece understand that Mouse was not being personal to you, but making a general comment.

As a human race...we have all done nasty things to those we see as different - irregardless of race! I'm not saying that it'* an excuse, but what one race has done to another, one sex has done to another, on sexual predisposition has done to another or one religious group has done to another, etc.; is done out bigotry, illiteracy, peer association and intolerance. Inexcusable and in some cases can never be forgiven.

I should no long suffer as a man for the action of my fore fathers lack of civility towards another, any more than I should pay for that same suffrage out of a claim of another race being treated unfairly over 100+ years ago or more. We cannot move forward to heal, if we keep being tasked and reminded that we owe a penance and must repay it over and over again.

I was confused by the whole Not YOU, you, black people thing. Still am frankly. And the 100 + years thing. In terms of family that is not long. I remember asking about my grandmothers mother as kids do and the details were sketchy. As an adult the records are still sketchy. Can't go back any further than that and that is the norm for black people. With DNA maybe. That is why I commented on it.

Couldn't agree more but I don't understand why some of you are getting so upset.

I get upset personally because I'm married to a black woman, and get treated as if it'* some form of new-day slavery. Like that'* the only reason I married her.

I get upset because I'm being treated as if I was the one owned slaves back in the day.

I get upset because a lot of black people I know the first impression they had of me was a white-trash, black hating redneck because of where I came from. Thankfully I kept that pissed off feeling inside and they got to know me better.

I get upset because minorities are allowed to show pride in where they came from "Africa, China, Mexico, Phillipenes, etc" but if I fly my Rebel flag I must be a racist.

You see where I'm going with this? If the direction of this country keeps going the way it is then the biggest minority is going to be the white, straight, male.

That explains a lot and you have every reason to be upset. Thanks for sharing. I gotta say though the rebel flag thing is an issue. Different people use it different ways. When I was a kid I liked the rebel flag, not that I dislike it now but it was one of those things that kids liked. I had an iron cross, you know the black one from Germany. Wore it on a chain. I wanted hair like Elvis since he had all the girls. Unfortunately as I got older I found that a lot of those things meant something different to some people. I still think the rebel flag looks damn good on the General Lee. And yes, I feel the same way about most of those thing as you do except for the owning slaves thing. Thats partly my point. Too many people assume too much about other people and when they get to know them they think they are the exception when generally they just haven't met enough people to know better.

I'm glad you see my point. I just get so tired of defending myself, so sometimes I just turn to pissing people off instead so they leave me alone.

Oh, and I got an awesome reaction in Mississippi once wearing this:

My wife, son, and I walked in to a Shoney'*. I was wearing that shirt, complete with my Wranglers, cowboy boots, big belt buckle and camo hat. Every person just looked at us in disbelief. It was awesome.

Now that is an interesting shirt. Most won't know how they are supposed to react. Love it. I'm kind of afraid to ask Jeep2Bonny about the whole Bubba the Love Sponge thing though. Guess I'll take my chances and Google it.
