I have Proxim at home and at the office. These are great units. They work really great if you have multiple units like outside, in the garage, and in the house. It allows you to roam with out droping packets. The range is great and the security is even better. It'* a little pricey however. But I picked up 4 routers 5 wireless cards, outside range antenna, POE hub all for 400.00 on ebay.

Easy set up. I havn't tested outside of the house but, it reaches anywhere in the house.
It is in the corner of the bonus room oposite the door. Since you know the floorplan of my house you should be able to get a good idea of its range.

I have a Linksys WRT54GS. I used to have a 54G, but i saw a chance to upgrade (parents needed wireless in thier home) and did so. Both of them worked flawlessly. I am running modified (Sveasoft) firmware on both of them and I have the range extenders on my GS. The modified firmware allows you to boost the power going to the antennas. I can be outside up to 150 ft from my router before things start to get too much noise and I am alittle over double of the stock voltage (stock is 28mV and I'm running 75mV with the capability of 251mV, but with more voltage you get more noise and a narrower beam). I have also been in my basement with no problems getting a signal. I have even been outside diagnosing problems with one of my vehicles or friends vehicles with my autotap and been able to post online from inside the car - very nice!

Right now, the WRT54GS isn't all that expensive. I have considered wiring up a mesh network to get full speed everywhere in my apartment, but as it is, I still get 2,000kbps through my network even at the extremes of its reach (anything less than 200kps on my network is where I draw the line for usable distance - measured with a 1MB file).

All of that said, there'* something to be said about being able to browse the forums from your favorite recliner in the living room while drinking a beer and watching football/racing/etc!!!
