Default Windshield replacement cost

I'm halfheartedly looking at buying a semi-beater of a '93 bonneville SE.

The thing that really makes me think twice about it though, is that it'* got a cracked windshield. I think it might drive me insane to look through that every day, but I'm not sure it'* worth replacing it either.

So, just so I go into this thing with my eyes wide open... Does anyone know how cheaply you can get a windshield replaced? Since I'd be buying it this way, and I'm honest, insurance wouldn't cover it. Obviously it'* not a HUD windshield or anything special.

Any numbers you could throw out there would be great, even if they weren't from a Bonneville. Thanks.

Get it replaced, if only for safety'* sake. (You will also fail inspection in a lot of states)

I've replaced two windshields, one on a '98 Lumina and one on my LHS. Both times it came to ~$200.

i would have it professionally done if I were you.
The windshield is structual support for the roof of the car. You want to make sure it doesn't pop out on you if in a roll over. They have special sealers and primers to make everything bond better.

I had mine done professionally, with the eyebrow tinting on top and everything, it was about $200...

Windshields will run $200-400 depending on state, etc. If anything, get a used one in good condition, and find someone to install it.

I had a guy come out to my house and remove the windshield. That gave me the opportunity to fix a rust issue.

He then came back 4 days later and installed the new windshield.

Total cost for his two trips and the windshield: $125. Cash. As for the "cash price" when calling for prices.

Thanks guys, that'* not as bad as I thought it might be.

I wouldn't really consider doing it myself... It'* a bit beyond my area of knowledge, and not really something you can get away with doing wrong (visually or safety wise).

With that in mind, I might just throw the kid a lowball offer, assuming it drives okay.

Thanks.
