I have a valid XP SP2 key, but no install disc.
Will my key work with any SP2 install disc? Can i borrow a copy from a friend and use my key?

IF your willing to learn a Totally diffrent OS, Then go for it.
But if you wants everything to work right off the bat. then hunt for a XP cd
You may get lucky and have it work but iv found it very hard to find the Right XP CD to match he Key if you dont knot the vrs.

well, the PC isnt really used at all... I just need it to establish a LAN connection to my xbox classic to stream movies from the PC to the Xbox so learning a new OS isnt that big of a deal

if you know what kind of key it is, you might be able to find a local computer shop to let you use one of their install discs, given that you have your own code. thats what my friend did when he had to reinstall windows.
For like $7 MS will send you a new install CD, tell them it was damaged and give them your key. Prices probably have changed since I last ordered one but the new one had
built in already and saved me numerous update downloads.
I think this is the number : Microsoft Order Desk 1-800-360-7561.
