98 is the best windows has come out with so far. Very easy to use and stable (IMO). XP (IMO) offers the best driver support.

I wanted to step out on a limb a bit and try something new

Ugh, I had nothing but problems with 98, all versions. I thought 2000NT Pro was the most stable. Anyways, I used it on another computer and it was buggy, wasn't my thing. I don't have a 64 bit comp yet so I cannot try it. I'd hold off, or myabe try the Vista beta.

I'll be honest, I have never heard of an 84 bit OS

Unless you get it for free....not worth it. You will not notice a night and day difference and by the time you get everything working right....Vista 64 will be shipping.
