Beyond stupid. I won't say it was criminal, but it comes damn close.
Inciting a panic is a felony in most states, and I think at least misdemeanor charges would be appropriate.
If one of those kids had called 911 on a cell phone, there could have been a very bad incident.

This is just disgusting. I can't believe I just read that. How in the world could they have come up with something that stupid??? I believe that moment ruined some of those kids lives, and a lot of them probably need counseling as well. If I were a principle, I would NOT teach the kids how to react to a situation, number one, because the fear of something like that happening is bad enough (most 6th graders are oblivious to things like the VT massacre ), and number two, the teachers are much more likely to stay focused during something like that, so any training on the kids part would be completely unnecessary. I mean, back in 8th grade on 9/11, we were instructed NOT to talk about 9/11 to the lower grades until we were told to. The 7th and 6th graders had class as usual. So why make children aware of a possibility of an attack? I think this was very poorly handled and the teachers and staff that were associated with this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Sadly, most school boards could give a hoot whats right or wrong. Its all about money and funding, and limiting liability. They need to be sued, since dollars and cents are about the only things these morons understand. The more I listen to Boortz and see whats happening with public education, the more disgusted I get.

pfft, says a lot about the society we're living in now, I hated that brought my child in such a world, not to say I don't love her but, everything'* changed this thing didn't happen around my community in the mid 80'* early 90'*

are teachers forgetting that Community Schools are that... OWNED by the community, no one else was notified of such a thing, how dare they,

Huh, SOMEone is thinking - "Let'* see, how to BS our way out of this one..."

This would not have been a bad idea if everyone involved knew it was a drill and had been trained how to react the best way possible. Maybe a deomonstration played out by certain people. Of course there will be panic and unpredictability if it really happened...

I was expecting to read about how someone accidently got shot by a gun that was loaded... that would be a real disaster.

(Opinion) This is a tort mad country, but I wouldn't blame those parents if they sued the school district, the individuals on the school board, the teachers, and anybody who was vaguely related to making this decision. Or walk into the principal'* office, stick a 9mm in his mouth, and tell him this isn't a drill. After he soils himself, tell him this was just a test.

The reason I feel strongly about this.... most of the folks here are not of my vintage. Those that are remember the atomic attack drills in grade school. Air raid siren and you hid under your desk. Luckily we were too young to truly grasp the situation. The problem was they initially ran them as drills. Then they started to run them without announcing them as a drill.

So you were under your desk, and didn't know if you were going to die or not.
