Actually, that'* a good reason to own a Smart car. The passenger compartment stayed reasonably intact during the crash. If anything, this video is a good reason to not be a human... we're too squishy and, as the narrator said, we can't safely handle that rapid deceleration.

However, if I had to crash into a concrete wall at 70 mph, I'd rather do it in a Bonneville, an SUV, a van, or maybe a tank. Something with a little more buffer room between me and the wall.

i like how it literally exploded into a million pieces.. i dont care about the passenger when im driving alone i care about walking away with my legs still intact, imagine if that was a head on collision at 70 mph

im surprised it even goes that fast, lol i did a project on smart car technology in college a couple years ago and at the end i put my opinion on them and posted a picture of a huge 1970 cadillac eldorado and said i would prefer to be riding in that over one of those any day and the class loved it

E = M * C(squared)

these are VERY low mass cars.... so the energy they have to shed when smashing into a wall at 70MPH is fairly low compared to a heavier car, so it doesn't need as much strength to stay together.

anyways, this is just one more reason to not get into one of these cars, from what i understand, the real-world fuel economy in them is horrible, not to mention it'* little 3 banger engine is horrible in all aspects.

Yea they're really only good for around town. But at that point why not have a small, all electric car instead? I don't see the point of these being fuel driven.

We were in Rome Italy recently, and there are a ton of Smart cars running around that city. They park them like scooters, with the back wheels to the curb and the front of the car pointed out to the street. The narrow streets and lack of parking make them an ideal selection for that environment. Outside of that, I think they are dangerous to have on the highways doing 70 MPH.
