Default Why I am always cautious about cars for sale on Craigslist

Craigslist has to be the riskiest place to buy a used car. Seems every hustler and ex-con is selling FSBO vehicles on Craigslist.

I got my 97 from CL. He even had a fresh Carfax for me. Yes, I agree, the good sellers are hard to come by anymore.

We bought the 99 Bravada off Craigslist, from a estate of a 80 year old farmer that passed away. I am always looking for a like opportunity, but instead it seems all most of the posts are unlicensed car dealers. I have no problem with that, but they are acting as if they are the owner/ driver of the vehicle, and pawning off a vehicle, often with deep problems, and at times to people who are not knowledgeable and may not be able to have the ability to fix the lemon they bought.

buying from cl is fine if you know you have to get it for cheap enough to fix the issues they didnt tell you about. bought my yukon for 2500 from cl when the others are 5k. it had o2 code that they must have cleared that came back, and the abs light was on when i bought it. but 300 for two hubs with sensors and 200 for o2'* and im still up 2k.

you have to know what you are looking at and make it worth your time.

My concern is not the Justins' or the Sarahs' buying, but someone who needs some wheels and is getting ripped off. Your abs and O2 sensor were cleared by the seller if I am reading your post properly. who would do a thing like that. Getting those things diagnosed and repaired at a shop can be a whole lot more than what you paid for parts.

I guess I live in a fantasy world, hoping people would be truthful when selling cars. The issue with Craigslist is they seem to have a entire market of used car hustlers selling cars as for sale by owner, when in fact they are cars with deep problems and are not being sold by he owner.

ive encountered that nwi seller actually. he tried to buy my 96 neon off me. gave me a sob story about how his sister just got devorced, and he was buying it for her. i searched his phone number, and he had 6 cars for sale on craigs. i wanted $600 for a neon with the rare dohc motor, new timing belt and pump new valve cover gasket, new alternator serp belt, plugs wires and coils and new radiator. all within the last 10k on a 75k mile car.

he offered me 300, then when i said no he trashed me on an ad he made. his trash ad got me bidders. sold it for 1300 haha.

it obviously wasn't super pretty but with those miles and new parts the motor alone was worth $600.

Craig'* List is "bottomfeeder" central, but I have bought and sold many cars there. You just have to be more educated than the seller.
