Default Why?

So I'm out wrenching on my truck, I'm putting an intake, exhaust and gauges on it, it'* 11:30 at night, I gotta wake up in like 6 hours, and I think to myself, "Self, why do we do this?" Why, as a wise racer once said, do I "spend money I don't have, on parts I don't need, to impress people I don't know?" I try to justify it logically, like how it'* for better mileage, or...uh.....somethin' else. Honestly, though, I got nothin'. I have no idea why I do what I do. The late nights, busted knuckles, sagging bank accounts, sometimes I wonder if it'* all worth it.

Then I line up down at Woodburn during WCBF, and it all makes sense.

Why do you do what you do?

no **** sherlock , I just dumped 4k into a tranny for 2 tenths. Didn't have it to begin with. The only thing I can come up with personally is .... I don't drink, smoke, gamble, fish, hunt, have a lake cabin......I guess I need a hobby (coulda picked one that doesn't cost so much)

I know! I wish I was into football, or soccer, or even crocheting, $100 bucks goes a long ways in those sports, but nowadays that barely fills the tank.

You do it for the same reason we all do it.
It'* a passion we all share.
To improve and makes things better and faster and stonger and harder and harder. I guess it all boils down to a sexual drive.

I figure since I don't have a horse, horse-trailer, boat, boat-trailer, snowmobile, snowmobile-trailer I figure I can spend about 10K on my car and STILL be money ahead!

Plus, when WCBF rolls around, it'* ALL worth it!

Well said Paul.
It’* hard to pin point why I pour so much time, effort and money into my car. The high I get from going fast and stepping back and/or looking at what I created differs from women, booze, drugs etc.. in a way I can’t explain.

And you know what I don’t have to try and explain anything to anyone who doesn’t already get it cause they won’t.

At a recent family gathering I was sitting with an uncle of mine talking cars. When my other uncle who has no interest in cars asked “Why do you care about HP or going faster it’* just a number?” So I asked him “Uncle Gary, why do you care about the stock market… Why do you care how a stock you don’t own is doing? It’* all just numbers right?” He didn’t have an answer.

Why? I think I'm pretty confused with what I do or do not do. Heh, I bought an Impala, didn't I? I guess I'll have to rediscover myself...
