That'* why I haven't jumped to the 180 stat...gets cold here. But I'm worried about the summer, so I just don't push it.

I really don't see why you guys are so worried about your cars overheating in the summer...

Maybe I am missing something, but mine never gets above 225 or so while sitting still. When rolling, never above 200...

I think you'd be better off with the fan mod...

I'm with you. No point in screwing around swapping stats. Leave well enough alone with the 195. As I always say, "GM put it in there for a reason..."

Said before..will say again. SC creates a ton of heat. Unless you've pullied...I don't see a reason.

The NA'* would only try to prolong the upper by trying to stay cooler. Although if you ask me..exhaust still heats to the same temp for the EGR pipe and will still break down the upper.

Not totally true. If your cooling system is 100% and you run a 195 at 40+ mph you should run about 198-200 in warm weather. With a 180 same conditions you should run 183-187ish.

But... now put that on an SC engine. SC'* building up so much heat when you work them..if you wot for a moment you can jump 10 degrees for a few moments. If you jump from 183, you hit 195ish? And likewise from 200ish.

Add to that traffic etc. and the cooler stat will keep you cooler for a while until temps build and fans kick on. Here'* where the pcm programmed to turn on fans lower comes in nicely.

Exactly. My thoughts all along. A lower temp thermostat doens't reduce the temp of the EGR gasses.
